Toony Inspiration

I have alot of very stylized artists that inspire me when I work.

The first I’d  like to mention here is the Deviant Artist “Lysol Jones.” I’m not sure he’s done much in recent times, but I discovered him long ago and fell in love with his very unique style. Simple resonates with me, and perhaps my style of art is not, but I appreciate this work.  He uses very bold lines and colors and just some visual devices that are very pleasing, especially when you’re considering game design.

In working on my project, I wanted to use a device I have seen many times, where a block of land is seemingly cut out and isolated by itself, like a display mount piece. Here’s such a work:

Then there’s Niklas….god I worship that guy. His concept are is a work of beauty by itself and I can sarely say he’s a personal hero

Concept art is one of the things I learn the most from, and I love seeing concept art for video games and this guy sketches countless amounts with varying styles. I can gather alot from viewing them.

Lastly, Android Jones, who is not Niklas.

Jones  has been said to paint with energy, and looking at his work, you can see it in his ethereal quality of art. I initially discovered him through a concept art gallery for a video game and quickly became fond of his other works, which are graphical, chaotic, illustrative, and beautiful all at the same time. He’s literally one of those artists who can brush his hand across a canvas and create a finished work. I try to capture some of that type of energy in my pieces sometimes, unconsciously really, in the way that he melds together different elements into a single expression. Of course, I could never touch that at my skill level, but it’s nice to dream.

Bitter Sweet Inspiration

When I first was thinking of logo ideas for my project, I knew I wanted to feature kawaii characters.  In my research I use wikipedia to gain the basic definition of the word kawaii, which means “cuteness”.  I also knew I wanted to add a twist to my cupcake idea, in the sense of using them to send a message.  I found kawaiinot.com very useful in choosing character faces and paperglitter.com in deciding packaging and other company products.  I know these sites are not very useful for anyone else but me, however they were very helpful in the completion of my project.

David Lance Goines

Noah Apple

The inspiration for my senior project was David Lance Goines. He’s a graphic artist based in Berkeley, and his emphasis is poster design. In most- if not all- of his work he applies a early 20th Century Arts and Crafts style, which began in Berkeley (CCA). Goines has a contemporary, stylized, graphical design style, and I tried using some elements in my work. Here’s an example of one of his posters:

Artist Sylvia Ji

Sylvia Ji Painting

Sylvia Ji is a local Bay Area artist that went to San Francisco Academy of Art. She moved to L.A. to design lingerie and wound up taking up painting as a hobby. She has been painting since 2005 and has gain notoriety for her unique style.  I found out about her artwork through my brother. He saw one of her paintings and decided to get a tattoo of it. Since then I have used her idea’s for some of my own projects. Her style of blending different cultures into her artwork is inspirational. She is my favorite modern day artist.

Here are a few videos about her.

Pixologic 2D-3D Creative Site

Anyone interested in using their talents for the movies or companies who use 3D animation?

I know there are a lot of class members who seem interested in creating some amazing 2D or 3D work.  I found some information from the creation of characters for the Avator movie.  What’s really nice about the site, is the ability to communicate with the artists who created these characters.  Save some time to really navigate throughout the site - it’s extensive.   You’ll find some great resources to figure out if you want to take your talents this direction.  They are privately owned and have offices in LA and SF and are currently hiring.  They use a 3D modelling program called Z-brush.

What is Z brush?  Go see U-Tube’s intro video.  Wait till the end of the video and click on more videos to learn about what this program can do.

More links for this site - see what Z brush does:

OK so you want to check it out more…. So how much does the program cost?  I saw prices of around $700.

Now you’re ready to take a tour on a site where you can purchase it…. or use their free 30 day trial available for download.

It may be for you - or not….

Silk Flair

For my senior project I chose to design scarves. I thought that this would be a great way to use some of my nature photographs, as well as get creative with patterns, typography and colors.  With scarves women are able to dress up even the simplest of attires, look chic and elegant, basically this is why I find them interesting.

I had to do research on scarves tying styles in order to create a small handbook. Some of the content was from this site: http://www.greatestlook.com/tyingscarves.html

I found the most diverse printshop that does printing on silk. Once I found this place, I new that my creative idea could become what I had imagined.

I found a designer, Carmella D’oro, who used flowers in her scarves, when I saw her work it was inspiring and it helped me visualize my personal project, one of my favorite in her collection is of beautiful sunflowers. I like how she incorporates nature elements, and this is similar to what I envisioned for my first scarves design collection.

I can feel that other people have been encouraging and inspiring in this journey, I am so grateful for my family and friends and those who have been part of my learning experience.

2011 Senior Project Inspiration and other inspiration site

Senior Project Inspiration and other inspiration site

Since many of my friends are getting married this year, I thought I could do something fun for Weddings.
I did some research on web, I also went to print shop to see some real wedding invitation and guestbook.
Here’s a great SITE that gave me a lot of inspirations on traditional wedding invitations design.

Here’s a good inspiration site for both graphic and webs.
I believe a good graphic designer must have a great site to showoff his work, it can be really simple but if people can remember it easily, it’s definitely very helpful.
